A member of the highly competitive North Carolina Independent Athletic Association, Cape Fear Academy offers competition at the Varsity, JV, and Middle School levels in 13 different sports. The NCISAA is the governing body of independent schools (day and boarding) in North Carolina. The NCISAA website is www.ncisaa.org. NCISAA is subdivided into four classifications based on size of school. CFA currently falls into the 3A classification (2nd largest).
Coastal Plains Independent Conference (CPIC) is a league of independent day schools that are located in the Coastal Plains Region of North Carolina and are members of the NCISAA 2A and 3A classifications. The schools in the league include: Cape Fear Academy, Coastal Christian HS, Epiphany School, Greenfield School, John Paul II HS, Parrott Academy, Wayne Christian School, and Wayne Country Day School.
Southeastern Middle School League (SMSL) started in the fall of 2006. The SMSL is an eight-school league for private schools in Southeastern North Carolina. The schools in the league include: Cape Fear Academy, Friends School of Wilmington, Harrells Christian Academy, Myrtle Grove Christian School, St. Mark Catholic School, St. Mary’s Catholic School, Southeastern Academy, and Wilmington Christian Academy.
